
Canadian writer David Morrell created the Green Beret character "John Rambo". His novel was later made into a film for on screen. Stallone starred in First Blood (1982) with Richard Crenna & Brian Dennehy. It was a spectacular success that divided audiences due to of its satire on the Vietnam conflict, which was still somewhat fresh within the American public's psyche. However, whatever political views you may have, Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985) was an immediate hit. The film received higher than a little criticism from various quarters because of its narrative about American MIAs who were being detained in Vietnam. But they say there is no such thing as bad publicity. And "John Rambo's" second adventure was an enormous money-maker for Stallone and set him up as one the best male actors of the 1980s. Stallone was riding high in his popularity, called upon Rocky Balboa, his sparring teammate, to return the fight to protect the American proud against his Soviet threat. It was an Russian boxer named Ivan Drago played by Curt Dolph Lundgren. While the film's fourth "Rocky" film was controversial in the eyes of "Rocky" movie fans because its brutal violence, particularly in comparison to earlier films. It is evident by the brutal beating Apollo Creed (played by Carl Weathers) endured at the hands the "Siberian Express".
